Again, assuming we have the correct birth certificate for Catherine Ross, then this is her grandfather. We only know of William from his daughter Isobel McKay's marriage record. The actual entry for this marriage is shown below, but discloses that William was deceased at the time of the marriage, but had previously been a "Tennant in the county of Sutherland. So at last an ancestor from the McKay heartland (even if he is not in my direct McKay line). The downside though, is that it will probably be impossible to identify him from no doubt tens of William McKay's living in Sutherland in the 2nd half of the 18th Century.

William's daughter Isobel married John Ross in Midlothian, Edinburgh. The actual record read:-

"John Ross Flax drefser, St. Giles Parish and Isobel McKay Old Kirk Parish Daughter of the deceased William McKay Late Tennant in the County of Sutherland"
