Like her husband, John Stewart, this ancestor of mine is Janet Stewart's parent; (Janet was married to Thomas Roger (5)). As can be read on Janet Stewart's page, there was, for some time, a lot of uncertainty surrounding Janet's parents' names. Her father variously being referred to not only as John, but also Alexander and William and her mother as Margaret, Janet and Jessie. However, my investigatory work, described on Janet's page, proved conclusively that her mother was called Margaret Watson and her father, John Stewart.

Working from that, the first thing I looked for was a record of a marriage between Margaret Watson and John Stewart. I found it immediately and it took place in Lyne, Peeblesshire, the same place where Janet had been born.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find either Margaret's Birth or Death records. From the 1841 Censuses we can say that she must have been born between 1810 and 1811, but I cannot find the record. As far as her death is concerned she must have died between 1841 and 1851, as she was alive at the time of the 1841 Census, but deceased by the time of the 1851 Census, John being recorded as a "Widower" in that Census.

Death - 1841 to 1851

No record has been found of Margaret's death, but she must have died during this period. She was alive at the time of the 1841 Census, but her husband is described as a widower in the 1851 Census. She must have been fairly young when she died; no more than 40.
