I know about Jean from her daughter, Helen's birth record, see below. From that I was able to discover the record of her marriage to Robert Biggar, but that's it I'm afraid. There is no record of a Jean Thomson being born in Selkirkshire in what could be considered a reasonable span of time (1755 to 1775). There is also no sign of her in the 1841 or 1851 Censuses - not surprising perhaps, as she would likely have been over 70 at that time and probably deceased.

KEY EVENTS AND DATES

11th June 1790

Robert married Jean Thomson in Selkirk parish church. Robert was employed as a servant to an advocate called George Hume (I think) at Carterhaugh. Jean's father was named as James Thomson, a Wright. Jean was from the Parish of Yarrow.

Robert's son, Thomas, was born in Selkirk. I have not yet obtained the actual record, but have seen the summary on ScotlandsPeople.

19th January 1796

Robert's daughter, Helen, was born in Selkirk to Robert Biggar and Jean Thomson. The actual recorded that the parents' names were Robert Biggar, a servant at Oakwoodmill and Jean Thompson his spouse had a child, Helen, born on 19th January 1796 and baptised on 14th February 1796, in the presence of the congregation.
