It doesn't look as though I am going to get any further back than this on the Ross line. Although we know of Catherine and her husband, Alexander Brand, through their names being recorded on various of their daughter Isabella Brand's records, the only record I have been able to find pertaining to Catherine herself, is the record of her marriage to Alexander Brand, Isabella's father. I am confident this is the correct record as both it and Isabella's marriage record refer to Alexander as a "Merchant" and it is the only marriage between an Alexander Brand and a Catherine Ross that took place near the time of Isabella's birth. The curious thing, though, is that Isabella's birth record describes Catherine as a spinster ("Sp. a. d. n.").
While I have also found the births of other children to Catherine and Alexander, I have been unable to find a birth record for Catherine that I am confident in. I had a notion at one time that I had found Catherine's birth record, even though her father was named as "John Ross" and not David as in her marriage record. Unfortunately, I did not note down why I thought this, although the proximity of her birth to her place of marriage may have had something to do with it. I have kept that record, but for now I have nothing to convince me it is the correct record.
Regarding Catherine's death, once again I have been unable to find a record of her death either in the name of Brand or Ross. Nor have I found her in the 1841 Census. I have to assume, therefore, that, like her husband, she died prior to 1841. So the Ross line peters out at Generation 7?
